D. Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy)

Diploma in Pharmacy is a short-range course for aspirants who want to start their career in the field of pharmacy. The course duration is 2 years and is a Diploma program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in the pharmaceutical field. The D Pharma full form is a Diploma in Pharmacy. D Pharma serves as a foundational step for further studies in Pharmacy or related fields, making it a popular choice for those interested in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Candidates pursuing this program gain a basic understanding of pharmaceutical science, skills to read prescriptions, and suggest over the counter medicines based on symptoms. In light of National Education Policy (NEP), Pharmacy Council of India, the apex body regulating the pharmacy education in the country, committed to revise the education regulations of Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) program and thus, the ‘Education Regulations 2020’ (ER-2020) has been notified in the gazette of India in October, 2020. This new regulation has given due consideration for the fact that, universally the roles of pharmacists undergo continuous evolution from that of ‘dispenser of medicines’ to that of ‘medicine expert’ in the multidisciplinary health care team. Programmes:

A diploma in pharmacy is a program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to work in various roles within the pharmacy and healthcare sectors.

Duration:

The duration of the course shall be for 2 academic years in addition to 500 hours practical training spread over a period of not less than 3 months. Students can apply for admission to the D Pharma degree if they want to start a career in the pharmaceutical sector and pursue a long-term career in the medical field of pharmaceutical sciences.

Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification: Passed higher secondary examination (10+2) in science stream or its equivalent examination in general stream course with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics.
Candidates passed in higher secondary examination (10+2) or equivalent examination in vocational stream course is not eligible for admission in D.Pharm as stated by the Pharmacy Council of India.

Age Criteria: Candidate shall complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the year for the admission to pharmacy course (i.e. 31.12.2024 for 2024-2025 session).

Reading the doctor's prescription, administering the right medication in the correct dosage and entering the patient's medical and personal details into the system for future references also requires meticulous attention. Effective communication skills enable you to interact efficiently and clearly with patients and other medical professionals. Can I become a registered pharmacist with a DPharm?
A person who has attained the age of eighteen years and successfully completed a Diploma, Degree or Pharm D Course in Pharmacy from an Institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India during completion of degree/diploma will be entitled to have his/her name entered as a Pharmacist on the register of the Council and is subject to he/she resides or carries on the business or profession of pharmacy in the State of West Bengal.
How long does it take to complete DPharm?

Can I pursue DPharm through online or distance learning?
There are a few reasons why D Pharma is not offered in online or distance education. First, the D Pharma Course is highly technical and requires hands-on training. Second, the program is regulated by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), which requires all D Pharma students to complete a certain number of hours of practical training. This training can only be completed in a regular learning environment.
Is financial aid available for DPharm?

Can I pursue higher education after completing my DPharm?
If pharmaceutical studies are your calling and passion, you can pursue a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. If you have already completed D Pharma, you may apply for the second year of B Pharma. Following that, you can pursue postgraduate degrees (M.Pharm).
